Why I'm a Financial Advisor

I like to empower others with the opportunity to understand and achieve their ultimate aspirations. I value integrity above all else, and chose the life of a financial advisor because I wanted a meaningful career that allows me to be of invaluable service to others. For more than twenty five years this vision has allowed me to build rewarding long-term relationships with many clients. Relationships founded upon honesty, integrity, and well earned trust.

I learned early in my career that good advisors meet minimum standards of care required by law while great advisors exceed them. In my experience the distinction between good and great relates to an advisor's commitment to clients' best interests. Throughout my career I have striven to demonstrate professional excellence and distinguish my innovative services through client education and empowerment. By empowering investors through continuous education my clients more fully understand their interests, value excellence, and become Next Level Investors.

A History Of Innovation & Excellence

My professional history demonstrates a passion for innovation and commitment to clients' best interests:

  • I have chosen to maintain an independent advisory practice to maintain objective solutions and maximize access to leading resources and services.
  • I began offering fee-based services and comprehensive planning support decades before it became popular to use the term "fiduciary".
  • I maintain the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF) and Certified Income Specialist (CIS) designations.
  • I have become and continue to be a vocal public advocate for financial literacy and the fiduciary standard.
  • I authored an educational newspaper column for six years, and my insights on personal finance were referenced in the Wall Street Journal (Sept 1, 2012).
  • Most recently, I have become focused on reviving the fiduciary standard of care in retirement plans. Retirement plans generally exclude the resources and support participants need to be prudent stewards of their wealth. To address this enormous concern I have helped pioneer Pre-Retirement Services that reconnect plan participants with the critical resources and support plans usually lack.  

Personal Background

I grew up in the Ferndale, California area. After graduating from Cal Poly SLO in 1990 I moved to the Seattle area, married my college sweetheart, and started a financial services practice. In 2004, my family returned to Northern California in order to centralize a growing west coast practice. My wife, Heidi and I have two grown children, Connor and Rowan.

Community Service

I am an active member of Rotary and Masons. I served as a Board member of Redding Youth Lacrosse and University Preparatory School Board. At U-Prep I originated the PTO and served as Director of Leadership U-Prep for more than five years. I received a Paul Harris Fellow from Rotary International, and have been recognized as a Community Builder by Redding West Rotary for many years of work with local youth.
